Lindsay Lohan is Reckless

On Behalf of | Jan 23, 2015 | DUI

Lohan-drunk

Lindsay Lohan isn’t helping her criminal attorney.

Lindsay Lohan’s Bora Bora vacation will likely land her in jail. Lohan was ordered to complete 240 hours of community service in lieu of 30 days in custody following a guilty plea to a 2012 reckless driving charge. LiLo has yet to complete her work hours.

Lohan’s criminal lawyer is doing his best to keep her out of jail, but she’s not doing her best to help him. On November 6, 2014 Lohan was supposed to provide proof that she had done all 240 hours of service. She’s completed about half that requirement, which means we’ll probably see Lohan in jail garb within the next couple of weeks. Fortunately for Lohan, the judge in her case gave her an additional week to complete the remaining 120 hours. All she has to do is volunteer 17 hours per day over the next week, and she’ll be good!

For all her problems, Lohan is good for a lesson in what not to do in court. Namely, don’t lie to your judge. When asked why she hadn’t completed her community service, Lohan reportedly told the court that the community service center was closed during the holidays, and that she then got sick with a mosquito born virus. She left out that she got the mosquito virus in Bora Bora while on vacation.

The judge is probably done with Lohan’s excuses for not doing what she’s supposed to. She’s repeatedly been late for court, or missed court, and her reasons have ranged from claiming her passport was stolen overseas, to missing a flight, to the recent mosquito virus.

A good criminal defense attorney will do everything possible to help his clients in court and out. Out of court, your criminal lawyer should uncover all the facts that will help you beat your charges. That generally includes a visit to the alleged crime scene, possible witness interviews, hiring a private investigator, and reviewing with you all of the evidence in your case.

In court help includes knowing the statutes, case law, judge’s reputation, and prosecutor’s quirks. In court help also includes clear communications abilities and excellent negotiations skills to either negotiate the best possible plea deal, or prepare for trial.

Lohan’s attorney worked out a plea deal that would have kept her out of jail, but only if she had done the things she agreed to, like performing 240 hours of community service. Too bad she couldn’t do the work. Hopefully, Bora Bora was worth 15 days in jail and six months of her new mugshot plastered on every news show.
